The new 2013 Honda Accord models can actually help driver avoid a collision in the first place – and, if one occurs, help protect against injury. Featured on Accord EX-L and above models, the new Forward Collision Warning (FCW)(1) uses a camera mounted in the upper portion of the windshield, or on the Touring model, a radar unit in the front grille to detect vehicles ahead and determine if a collision is likely. If the system determines that a detected vehicle presents a collision risk, visual (on the windshield and instrument panel) and audible warnings are provided to alert the driver. The system can be activated and deactivated by pressing a button on the lower-left portion of the instrument panel.
Lane Departure Warning (LDW) standard on all 2013 Accord EX-L models and above uses the same upper front windshield camera as used in the non-Touring FCW system to visually detect lane lines in the road. If the driver begins to drift out of a detected lane without using the turn indicators, the system will alert the driver with an icon in the instrument panel and an audible warning, though the driver remains responsible for safely operating the vehicle and avoiding collisions. The system can be activated and deactivated by pressing a button on the lower-left portion of the instrument panel.

(1)The Accord will not automatically brake, and the driver remains responsible for safely operating the vehicle and avoiding collisions. The FCW system cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and other factors. System operation may be affected by extreme interior heat.
(2)LDW may not detect all lane markings or lane departures; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and road condition. System operation may be affected by extreme interior heat.
